Search Engine Optimization - Part 2
In
Part I, we covered “why should you not use generic software”, “why is
search engine optimization traffic better than pay per click”, and “why
do some companies offer a guarantee, and why some companies don’t”.
With all the emails we’re getting on search engine optimization and
website application development services, we’ve answered a few more
questions today.
My site has been submitted for 3 days! Why can’t find my site on any search engine?
After we have completed fulfilled the custom software development for
search engine optimization, and submitted your web site, you will see
your listing on several search engines in as little as three days. But
remember, it may take anywhere from 60-90 days to achieve high ranking.
Search engines have many high powered servers, continuously updating
their data and re-indexing the information. It takes time for Search
Engine Spiders to properly search, review and index the new found data.
Your vendor for software development services will not be able to help
you regardless of their skills during the indexing time. With proper
search engine optimization, ranking takes time and is unfortunately a
measure beyond any search engine optimization and submission company's
control.
My site is only the top rankings of several search engines, so I don’t need to do anything, or do I?
A major misconception is that once you achieve high ranking on a search
engine, you will remain on that page. On the contrary, maintaining your
website’s position on the search engines can be just as critical and
often as difficult. Just as you were once the new website trying to
find a spot on the rankings, many more are trying to take your spot on
the page. Outside of the regular maintenance tasks such as updating
your content, take a closer look at the flow of your website. What
pages are users coming from? Which pages are they visiting the most
frequent? Which pages are they spending the most time? Once you have
this information, our Website Application development team can help you
address these items and help you remain top ranked.
Can I have as many keyword phrases as we want?
Once upon a time this was true. Search engines have gotten smarter
though, they know that not every website can be related to everything.
Sites are now penalized if they have too many keywords, so it’s best to
pick the words that you want to be found by most and to tailor your
code and content around those 5 or 6 keyword phrases. This forces your
website application development team or business team to properly
assess the requirements of your business and to concentrate on the
point of improvement the most.
If
keyword phrases are so important, can’t I just use the keywords in
every sentence or hide them behind pictures or use the same colour as
my background?
There are really 2 questions here. 1) Using keywords constantly. 2) Trying to trick search engines by hiding content.
- We
all know what email SPAM is. Well, incoherent usage or excessive
repetitiveness of keywords is considered Search engine spider SPAM and
SPAM is never a good thing.
- Trying to trick search
engines by hiding content to the human eye is useless. Much like
camouflage equipment if your enemy is searching with heat sensors.
Search engines aren’t viewing content like we are; they have “spiders”
which travel through the actual code and content and store the
information in their own databases – besides, any true webmaster or
company that offered custom software development services would never
endorse such an underhanded way of coding.
Search
engines are some of the largest website applications developed in the
world. Search Engines and their algorithms have employed some of the
top software development services out there. The algorithms have been
written by some of the most experienced webmasters with background in
mathematics and computer science algorithms. They know when someone is
trying to fool them with code or using unethical methods of search
engine optimization and have ensured that their algorithm will not only
not produce positive results but have a long term negative impact.
While some of these methods offer quick and positive results, the end
result is being blacklisted and losing the ability to fulfill search
engine optimization for 2-5 years (depending on the search engine) AND
being blacklisted for email SPAM servers. If you’re thinking of
changing your content as soon as you have seen results, it will not
change the fact that your site will become blacklisted since they have
already stored the information in their databases.
