JSCGroup developed the e-commerce portal of a public listed software product development company. The firm is engaged in development and marketing of software products to business and religious organizations, and individuals. Business Requirements The firm wanted to use the Internet to sell its products to wide range of customers and thus retain its competitive edge. The firm wanted the system to be designed and developed in a way that it’s simple to use and easy-to-maintain. The pages should present themselves in a “sales” fashion to assist or trigger online customer purchase. The online system should facilitate fast and simple product selection and purchase.   The Core Objectives Core level objectives were identified as: Develop an easy-to-use maintenance process to add/edit/remove products. A content management system to manage content of all the pages. A product unlocking system upon successful purchase and specific to an order. All products, customer data to be secured and future upgrades should be quick.   JSCGroup Solution To fast and accurately meet the requirements and core objectives, JSCGroup employed a two-phase approach. In the first phase a prototype model of the system was developed and validated with series of interactions to meet the requirement objectives. The second phase consisted of development of the system in a systematic and methodical environment. Reusability concept was employed and wherever possible pre-written codes and components were used from the reuse library (search function, recently viewed items, shopping cart functions etc).   Results Use of code libraries and reusable components resulted in 30% shorter development time and generated substantial cost savings, the benefit of which was passed to the customer. Clean architecture and modular approach added flexibility to easily accommodate future requirements. Increased customer loyalty with anywhere, anytime access. Instead of waiting for the products to be physically shipped, customers can now purchase and instantly download the product to use.
